Hani’s bakery

East Village (Manhattan)

This week, we're thrilled to feature Hani's Bakery, the East Village's instant hit that's having serious fun with comfort baked goods and creative flavor combinations.

Hani's comes from culinary power couple Miro and Shilpa Uskokovic—he's the former decade-long executive pastry chef at Gramercy Tavern known for his thoughtful and audacious flavor-first approach, while she's a senior food editor at Bon Appétit with experience at Michelin-starred restaurants.

Named in honor of Miro's mother Vojka (whom he called Hani), this bakery represents the fulfillment of two dreams—his mother's unrealized vision of opening a bakery in Yugoslavia before war and illness intervened, and the couple's own Pinterest board dream from 2011 of opening "our cookie bar in New York City."

Located at 67 Cooper Square in a former Dunkin' Donuts space (complete with the charming D-shaped door handle), Hani's celebrates the diversity of American baking with decidedly fun twists on nostalgic treats—from very-green pistachio halva Rice Krispies treats to a four-layer cake inspired by peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

We can't wait for you to experience Hani's bakery!
