Oct 10 - 12: KORA
Sunnyside (Queens)
This week, we're thrilled to feature Kora, the Filipino bakery in Sunnyside that transformed from a pandemic home-kitchen project with a 10,000-person waitlist into Queens' most sought-after donut destination.
Kora comes from Eleven Madison Park and Union Square Hospitality alums Kimberly Camara and Kevin Borja, who started as "accidental entrepreneurs" after being laid off during COVID and discovering magic when Camara fried leftover brioche dough and filled it with ube pastry cream.
Beginning in March 2020 as an online-only bakery operating from their Woodside apartment, Kora quickly grew from selling out 100 donuts per week in under a minute to producing 1,000 donuts weekly, with their sari-sari boxes featuring flavors like halo-halo with coconut cream, jackfruit, banana chips, leche flan, and tapioca pearls.
Located at 45-12 Greenpoint Avenue in a bright, spacious storefront with about 20 seats and a large kitchen window, Kora has expanded beyond donuts to include laminated pastries, savory options like Spam-filled pain Suisse, and ensaymada-inspired croissants, all using Filipino ingredients and family recipes to create approachable vessels for sharing rich cultural flavors.
We can't wait for you to experience Kora.
